Seeing is believing. But is believing seeing? We think so. Think about it. When you’ve been in love, those very early stages, do you ever see anything negative about your beloved? Your belief in that person, that mirror of your own best qualities and your belief in love is all that you see. What you see is what you believe in.
Can this way of perceiving extend to all our visions? That if we believe in the beauty around us, we then see it that way and it will indeed be beautiful. It’s like magic, really.
We have a much greater capacity to envision our world than we use. Mind -altering substances, from wine to magic mushrooms, enable us to access worlds we normally do not visit. But the substance is only a tool, like a wand, that helps us relax and open up the doors. The things we see when journeying are always there, we’re just not in the "frame of mind" to take them in.
So, how does that apply to our daily existence? Simple, though of course, like all things, practice is required. Let’s start with the banal but necessary system called public transportation. Instead of seeing each ride as a trip into hell with too many people, both over-priced and undependable –try this. Every time you get on the tube, metro, bus, imagine you were doing this for the first time. Perhaps you’re visiting from another planet or time period and it’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen. You have the opportunity to stare at a multitude of faces, may even be able to strike up a conversation with one of your fellow travellers or read a novel, far from the noise of the television or your kids’ yelling. And on top of that, you actually get from A to B. Now pull your left ear. Boom. Not so bad really, when you think of it in this way. Then, on the days when the traffic is heavy, schedules are late, the temperature’s high, you just pull your left ear again and you’ll remember all the reasons it’s not so terrible to be on a bus. There’s a name for this type of magic, neurolinguistic programming. But it’s simply about altering the way you perceive things.
We can think about many things in our lives in a different way and they will in fact become different. When we project a vision of beauty and peace, it is extremely difficult to get back anything else from the universe. It works that way. It is rare that a dog will snap if you greet it with a smile. Unless that creature has experienced pain or is in great fear, he reflects back to you your own trust of life. Magic can be quite simple. Sometimes all it takes is a smile.
So to reiterate. What you believe is what you will see. If you believe that it takes a dark heart to become successful in this world, then that is what you will see – successful bastards. If you believe that success is a mixture of many aspects of life, with monetary being only one on a long list, then you will first see success as something different to a lot of our culture and those who are successful to be kind, compassionate and varied. So put on those new spectacles and begin seeing life with new eyes.
